Hi! It's been a while since you've heard from me, so I've got plenty of news for you!
I now officially have a contract! What does that mean? That I'm now officially going with School at Sea!!! Two and a half months and then I'll be on board, exciting!
In the meantime, of course, I have also done many things to raise money:
I had a temporary job! I watered my neighbors' plants for eight weeks. I really enjoy doing that and that way I earn some extra money for School at Sea. I put all the money I earn from side jobs in a separate account for School at Sea!
I went to a documentary made by a former SaSser (School at Sea-er) with other SaS participants. And that was super fun and very educational. The documentary gives you a good insight into what it is like on board.
We also went to Scheveningen beach with a group of participants from SaS. It was a lot of fun and I got to know them better.
I went to the Tall Ship races last weekend. That's where the Thalassa was. Hilde (someone who went with School at Sea last year) gave me a tour on board and I spoke with the captain and education coordinator. The Thalassa is a beautiful ship and I can already envision living there for six months.
Of course I approached many people, and a new sponsor has emerged: Hypotheek Shop! Thank you so much for helping me make this dream come true. If you want to buy a house, Hypotheek Shop is there for you.
I had also started "cold-calling" (calling companies that I barely know and then approaching them), but that was no success. Since you are further away from the person with cold calling, it is much more difficult to do. That is why I have decided that from now on I will no longer do cold calling, but that I will look for sponsors more within my network.
Stay tuned and until next time,
Gijske
